ASHTANGA NIRVRTA
Meaning ‘joyful’ in Sanskrit (and pronounced neer-vra-taa) NIRVRTA is an idyllic and environmentally friendly ‘Ashtanga yoga homestay retreat’, near Sakleshpur in the Western Ghats of South India.
Designed by Mahesh Nandeesh and Philippa Asher, ASHTANGA NIRVRTA’s aim is to encourage all levels of practitioners to embrace the Eight Limbs of Ashtanga Yoga, in India’s spectacular nature. Guests can enjoy feeling connected to the environment, whilst being free from the clutches of urban living. NIRVRTA is a haven for rejuvenating and nourishing the soul.
We offer two week Ashtanga yoga retreats from January through to May (guided self-practice in the mornings and workshops in the afternoons). Philippa is CERTIFIED by Sri K Pattabhi Jois to teach the traditional Ashtanga method, so will offer you guidance and support in your practice. Mahesh is here to ensure that your stay with us is both comfortable and fun. Places are limited to a maximum of eight guests on each retreat.
ASHTANGA NIRVRTA is a peaceful getaway for nurturing tranquility of mind, body and spirit. You can immerse yourself in nature, enjoy locally grown home-cooked South Indian vegetarian food, go trekking, practise traditional Ashtanga yoga, or simply recharge, meditate and take a break from urban life. You are welcome to indulge your talents in our organic vegetable garden, pick coffee, black pepper, or help out in the kitchen should you so desire.
There are plenty of sights close by, including the historical fort of Tipu Sultan, ancient stone temples of Belur and Halebid, the magnificent hills of the Western Ghats, as well as waterfalls and splendid countryside walks and jungle treks.
